WNBA December 2nd News

Anne Donovan, who coached the Seattle Storm for five years and took down a WNBA Championship, surprisingly resigned this weekend.  Donovan, who still had one year remaining on a three year contract, said she wanted to take on new challenges.  This is bad news for the Storm, who are already in a major transition, with just three players currently under contract next season, and their MVP Sue Bird expected to leave.  The first name coming out for the position was Paul Westhead, current assistant coach to the Sonics.  Westhead, who coached the Phoenix Mercury to a WNBA Championship this year, quickly denied the rumours, stating that he is happy where he is, doesn’t want to leave or try and do the jobs simultaneously.

The new WNBA Atlanta Franchise announced Marynell Meadors as the General Manager and Head Coach this weekend.  Meadors has a long history of coaching, with more than 500 wins stretching through four collega and pro teams.  Meaders began her managerial career at Tennessee Tech University, where she spent 20 years.  She also coached Florida State University.  In the pro world, she coached the Charlotte Sting in 1997, 1998 and 1999, where she did a fantastic job, and is fondly remembered.
