WNBA News for November 16th, 2007

If Dennis Rodman is still looking to be a WNBA coach, he’s going to have to look outside Atlanta.  The new franchise, and owner Ron Terwilliger, have said that they’d prefer to have a women’s coach, since it’s a women’s league.  I guess dressing like a woman doesn’t count?  Terwilliger is expected to announce Georgia All-American Teresa Edwards as head coach by Thanksgiving.  Edwards was the assistant coach for the Minnesota Lynx last season.

There’s no debate on the greatest WNBA player, and that’s Lauren Jackson. The Syndey Morning Herald wrote an excellent article, calling her the “Michael Jordan of Womens Basketball”.

WNBA News for November 5, 2007

With a few vacancies in the head coach roles of various WNBA teams, there are bound to be many applicants.  One of the applicants may be a but surprising however, as Dennis Rodman is interested in becoming a coach. We’ll have more on this story as it progresses.

Clay Bennett, owner of the Seattle Supersonics and Seattle Storm, has told the NBA now of his intentions to move the Sonics franchise to Oklahoma City.  However the Seattle Storm may remain in Seattle.

Connecticut Sun were given bad news, as Australian guard Erin Phillips said she will not be playing in the 2008 season.  She missed the 2007 season due to a knee injury, had made her intentions to come back for the ‘08 season, but is planning to stay in Australia and fight for a spot in the Australia National Team.

WNBA News for November 2, 2007

2006 WNBA MVP Lisa Leslie has made a return to the court after taking a year off for the birth of her daughter.  Leslie returned to play for the US National team in an eight-game college tour, beginning with a game against Maryland.  Leslie played for the Los Angeles Sparks, joining them in the WNBAs first season, 1997.

Since joining up with the WNBA, Leslie was the first person to reach 3,000 points.  She has won numerous MVP awards, led the WNBA rebounds in 1997 and 1998….although she is more well known for being the first player to dunk in a WNBA game.  We wish Leslie well with her comeback into the game.
